Jenny Nash by the sea

Jenny Nash - Contemporary Impressionist Artist

I’m Jenny Nash, an impressionist artist living and working in Devon, surrounded by the coastline and countryside that inspire my paintings every day.  From my studio beside a quiet river near Witheridge, I create expressive seascapes and landscapes that reflect the changing moods of the South West - from wild, windswept beaches to gentle fields, woodland and moorland under vast, shifting skies.

I’m drawn to the drama of the sea and the atmosphere of open spaces and often feel a place before I really see it.  In my artwork, I try to capture that emotional response to the rush of a storm, the calm after rain, the light catching on distant hills using the view itself as the structure for the work. I work mainly in oils or acrylics, building up layers of colour and rich texture to suggest movement and depth, so that each artwork feels alive revealing new details over time.

My seascapes explore the power, rhythm and restlessness of the sea, while my landscapes focus on moody skies and views across local farmland, rivers and the moors of Dartmoor and Exmoor. I love that different people see different things in the same painting and often sense very different emotions; for me, that means the artwork is engaging and starting a personal conversation with the viewer.  Collectors tell me that my paintings become the heart of a room or workplace, visually and/or emotionally.

I create original, affordable and collectable pieces on canvas board and paper, and I’m always happy to help you imagine how a painting might work in your home or workplace. If you have a favourite coastline, walk or view that you carry in your mind, I hope you’ll find something in my gallery that resonates with that memory and brings a sense of space and calm into your everyday life.

Please browse the gallery, get in touch with questions, or simply enjoy spending a little time in these painted seascapes and landscapes.
